“Decolonise 2.0” on July 31 and “Live from Stagyn” on August 18 will stream previews of artists from 2 Rivers Remix, the 2020 Online Feast of Contemporary Indigenous Music, September 4 • 5 • 6
July 28, ’Q’emcín (aka Lytton BC): 2 Rivers Remix (2RMX) Feast of Contemporary Indigenous Music returns for its 3rd straight year. The 2020 festival re-emerges online with all performances streaming as part of the Indigenous collaboration project VirtualFeast.ca.
Because of COVID-19, all performances will be ‘streaming’ to you via website, VirtualFeast.ca or 2riversremix.ca/live plus additional platforms such as Facebook Live.
2 Rivers Remix was launched with 2 preview events, Decolonise 2.0 on July 31, and Live from Stagyn on August 18, focusing on Indigenous artists from local Canyon Nations. The full virtual 2 Rivers Remix festival will run September 4, 5 & 6 with a full line-up over 30 Indigenous Artists reflecting the diversity of Indian Country, rural and urban, with approximately half the artists being women, one-quarter youth and one-tenth 2-Spirit.
Decolonise 2.0 commemorates the 110th anniversary of the Declaration of Interior Nations when the Nlaka’pamux, Secwepemc, and Syilx Nations unified their struggle to resist the theft of their unceded land.
From the stunning canyon location where the 1910 Declaration was signed, Secwepemc artists The Melawmen Collective will stream their musical medicine. Melawmen means medicine in Secwepemctsin. The Melawmen’s unique contemporary Indigenous fusion encompasses stories, history, art, hip hop, rock/folk, with rich rhymes and lush harmonies. We will hear from Nlaka/pamux Elder, Darryl Minnabarriet whose Grandfather signed the landmark declaration on July 16, 1910 as part of the event.
This event will also feature a mind-spinning set from 2 Spirit DJ O Show who lives at the confluence of the Indigenous, LGBTQ2S+ and Black Lives Matters resistance struggles. DJ O Show, 2-Spirit/Skwxwu7mesh/Afro-Canadian, blends her love of hip hop and R&B with pulsating beats to bring people to their feet. O Show is also an elected member of the Squamish Nation Council, 2019 Grand Marshal of the Vancouver Pride Parade and a spokesperson of Black Lives Matter in BC.
Live from Stagyn, the second 2 Rivers Remix preview event on August 18 is a livestream of contemporary Indigenous music from the heart of the Nlaka’pamux Nation supported by SoundON. Live from Stagyn is a showcase of young artists from local Canyon nations Nlaka’pamux and Lil’Wat plus the added spice of global Indigifunk ambassadors Curtis Clearsky and the Constellationz.
Nlaka’pamux youth artist Ecko Aleck dazzles with spoken word and post-urban musical vibe. Big Willie G1, 19 year-old ‘Namgis/Nlaka’pamux Blues sensation, gets peoples’ virtual feet bopping. Spiritual Warriors’ reggae beat and songs in Lil’wat are fresh from their album “Ancestors” winner of “Best World Recording” at 2019’s Native American Music Awards.
